The Desert Date Palm is a tree that comes from tropical Africa, on the edge of the Sahel Desert in the north of Burkina Faso. It is also known as the “Wild Date Palm”, and is a hardy tree with long, deep roots allowing it to withstand the drought of the desert’s arid soils.
The Desert Date Palm is invaluable in the fight against deforestation. In fact, this century-old tree can reach up to 9 meters in height, providing a vast shaded area, where other plants can grow between its roots. It is also valued for its nourishing qualities, and it leaves and fruit are consumed by the local populations. Its fruit is also valued in medicine for its anti-inflammatory properties and much more besides.
Najel Desert Date Oil is extracted from an unique cold-pressing of the seeds of the date palm (iboraghan ou aboghar), is a strong emollient. This fleshy drupe has only one seed.
